Here’s a sampling of what the hands-on Kiplinger session will cover:

  • Find sources in your city who are from a specific foreign country or city (to localize international stories).
  • Locate former employees (they might talk!) of any company living near a particular city.
  • Set up a search of all public tweets near an address (e.g. your state Capitol) and automatically download results every 15 minutes into a Google spreadsheet.
  • Set up online keyword searches to find content worth curating quickly on your social channels.

Other JournCamp topics include real-time reporting online, data journalism, smartphone video and Google tools. Other speakers include P. Kim Bui, deputy managing editor, Reportedly; Cindy E. Rodríguez, senior journalist in residence, Emerson College; Dan Petty, director of audience development, Denver Post; Anna Boiko-Weyrauch, reporter, Rocky Mountain PBS News; and Jordan Wirfs-Brock, data journalist, Inside Energy.

The Kiplinger Program is a co-sponsor of the event. The full schedule and other details are available at the JournCamp registration page.
